The cat’s paws quietly patter
Lion in the grasslands
Grandchildren crawled on hardwood floors
cautioned against meddling with the knick knacks
The grandparents spent their lives
here watching a modern world
trying to be random on purpose
Watched matchboxes and spaceships
outdo one another
to prove they are the same
You stand there smiling
with garland lashes and triangle eyes
A passed down loot with siding for wrinkles
diamonds on your doorstep
Worn in with a touch of pride
surrounded with life
growing old
