5/30 Breathing

If we were given 20,000 breaths each morning
and with each breath posed a choice
for every word, thought and action,
what would we have cashed in on
as the bedside lamp dims?
In that silence, whatever it was we
hoped for,
dreamt of
would be all we'd have left.
...would be all we'd have left...

We search for purpose because we are afraid to die, and
if we can give our lives meaning
maybe death is worth the exchange.
But we are wasteful.
We want not to be lonely
                             poor
                             sick
                             uncomfortable,
allthewhile given 20,000 opportunities to be loving
                                                                  generous
                                                                  grateful.
