Spinning Compass

Belief is an accumulation of perceptions and the foundation of self. When this lonely foundation is shaken, when there is no stable ground to walk on, we tend to put our feet in our mouths instead. To be free of self is the only real way to be free of this earth. Who needs walking when you can fly?

We are a series of adjectives. We need reasons, we ask questions, we prove things with facts. Who we are is what motivates us, and without belief, we are a spinning compass. We search for purpose because we are afraid to die, and if we can give our lives meaning, maybe death is worth the exchange. Ironically, death can be the driving force of life. It’s why we “make each day count” and “live life to the fullest." There would be no concept of now if we did not perceive an end.

When our sense of self is tested, we experience an inner Hiroshima, because we confuse our perceptions for truth. We think, “How can you not see it my way?” and if we take the time to analyze we wonder, “Who am I? What defines me?”

We all see the world in our own unique way, and these fundamental differences are what form conflicts and alliances. From birth, we subconsciously learn to find safety in order and instinctually lash out against anything that disrupts this. We like those who share our thinking because they allow us comfort, and we dislike those who do not because they bring disorder.

Some days the path is clear, other days we have no direction. Maybe not knowing which way to go is...the way. There is a continuum beyond human understanding, beyond language.
